Methods for dose-response-analysis in epidemiology

Heiko Becher, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf

Eva Lorenz, Bernhard Nocht Insitute for Tropical Medicine

Day: Sunday, September 6

Length of tutorial: half day

Technical level: medium

Continuous or semi-continuous covariables commonly occur in epidemiological studies. The methods to analyse these within regression models include categorization, ad-hoc transformations, fractional polynomials, and splines. The special case of semi-continuous covariables will be introduced. The theoretical basis and pro's and con's of the methods will be presented, and participants will perform exercises with real datasets using R, SAS or STATA.
